7 big myths about hair loss
That caps make you bald, that washing your hair daily weakens it, that it only happens to men... We separate science from rumor so you act in time and for the right reasons.

Few topics gather as many popular beliefs as hair loss. The problem is that some myths waste valuable time —the time that is best spent treating it early. Let's go through the most widespread ones.
1. "Wearing a cap makes you bald"
False. A cap does not suffocate the follicle or cause alopecia. Only extreme, constant tension (very tight hairstyles over years) can cause so-called traction alopecia. Your everyday cap is not the problem.

2. "Washing your hair daily weakens it"
False. Washing does not pull out healthy hair. The hairs you see when washing or brushing were already in their natural shedding phase. Keeping the scalp clean is, in fact, good for hair health.

3. "Cutting it makes it grow back stronger"
False. Hair grows from the root, not the tip. Cutting improves the look (fewer split ends), but it does not change thickness or growth speed.
4. "Hair loss only affects men"
False. Women also experience androgenetic alopecia and other forms of loss, often as a diffuse thinning of density. Being less visible at first does not mean it isn't happening.
5. "Baldness is inherited only from the mother's side"
False. There is a relevant gene on the X chromosome (maternal line), but inheritance is polygenic: genes from both parents play a role. Looking at only one side of the family predicts nothing reliably.
6. "There are shampoos and products that cure alopecia"
Misleading. No over-the-counter shampoo reverses androgenetic alopecia. Some improve the scalp or add apparent volume, but real treatment has medical names (minoxidil, antiandrogens, etc.) and requires a diagnosis.
7. "If it falls out, there is nothing to be done"
False, and the costliest myth. Today there are effective treatments that slow the loss and restore density, especially if started early. Giving up is exactly the opposite of what helps.
